Questions drivers ask

How much does charging cost?
Each charger shows its price per kWh in ETB, VAT included, before you pay. You choose a budget, and charging stops when it is used up.
How do I pay?
Online, with your bank or mobile money. Signed in, you can also pay from your Hayl Charge balance.
Do I need an account?
No. Scan, pay and charge. Sign in with your phone number only if you want to keep your balance and history.
What happens to money I don’t use?
Without an account it stays as credit on this phone for 6 months and comes off your next charge. Save it to your number to keep it on any phone. With an account it goes straight back to your balance.
Do I get anything for adding credit?
Yes. Add credit in one go and we put free credit on top, up to 10% on the largest top-up. It lasts 30 days and is spent before your own money, so your money never expires.
Will it work with my car?
Each charger lists its plug type, such as Type 2, CCS2 or GB/T. Check it matches your car before you pay.
How long does a charge take?
It depends on the charger and your car. As a guide, 7 kW adds about 40 km of range an hour, and 22 kW up to about 120 km if your car takes that much. A DC fast charger takes most cars from 20 to 80% in 30 to 60 minutes. Each charger’s page shows its power before you pay.
What if the charge stops early?
You pay only for the energy your car received. If a charge stops early, whether the charger, the power or the car stops it, the rest of your budget comes back: to your balance if you are signed in, or as credit on this phone if not. Usually at once, and at most a few hours later if the charger still has to send its final reading.
Do I get a receipt?
Yes. Every charge has a receipt with the energy, the price and the VAT where the operator charges it. It is on screen when the charge ends, and signed in you find every receipt under History.
